Double Podium Haul for Will in Season Opener
Reigning Supercars Champion Will Brown was back on track over the weekend at the Thrifty Sydney 500 for the opening round of the 2025 Championship.
Race 1 - P5
Brown had a difficult start to the weekend with Friday and missed the Top Ten Shootout in the new qualifying format and took off later in the night from P11.
Great strategy from the Red Bull Ampol Racing Team meant that Brown took on four tyres on in the stop and was able to come back through the field to finish P5 in the short race.
Race 2 - P3
On Saturday, Brown qualified P5 in the shootout and in the race, had a great start and made his way through the field, getting past Mostert & Payne late for P3 to catch up to the readdress from Waters who had just spun teammate Feeney.
In what was hailed as one of the best Supercars Race finishes ever, Brown looked like he had a small chance to benefit from the tussle but ultimately finished on the last step on the podium.
Race 3 - P2
For Sunday’s final race, Brown had a great start shooting into P2 from P4 off the line which is where he would ultimately finish.
Despite hunting down Waters, Brown wasn’t able to catch him in the #1 and noted that there’s some work to do for the team ahead of Round 2 to bridge the gap to him.
"I think I would have ended up about second in the championship now. So, after the first weekend, that's not too bad. Cam's obviously come out with a bang winning all three races and doing that at the first round is a massive achievement. We need to come back stronger at the Grand Prix and do a better job.”
Round 2 of the Supercars Championship will be held on March 13-16 at the Australian Grand Prix.
